-Points would be gained by operating on the forum and answer questions or starting topics. Points are generally based on post count, but the points varies from implementation.

hmm can u cr8 ranks for people with high reputation + high points ?
this may motivate people to post something sensefull and often.

I think not. Seems we already have pretty much groups and there is no such apply to take and create ranks. it is possible to get points from your posts and each post can be voted by clicking the plus or minus on post.
